    Racism does not exist in Puerto Rico. If I were to go to a baseball game in PR and start a conversation about racism, they would look at me as if I have two heads. If you were driving and get a flat tire, Puerto Ricans, the most compassionate people in the world, would help you and not give a damn what you looked like. These racism concepts you’re trying to introduce in PR are foreign to us and are from another culture. What does exist in PR and in the rest of the Caribbean, Central and South America is something called Colorism. People intentionally marrying someone lighter than them in order to improve their race. This is horrible and sinful and the only one who can cure that is Christ.

    Haitian Africans led by Igbo -Africans defeated Napoleon's army to set San Domingo (Haiti and Dominican Republic) free in the Haitian Revolution (1791 - 1804) . They equipped Simon Bolivar and thousands fought with him against the Spanish setting Gran Colombia free in 1825. This victory led to the total victory of Latin-America. This is why the White Supremacist West are politically and economically strangulating Haiti along with other resistant countries like Cuba.

    I'm a gringo that did research into my family tree. I found evidence of an African ancestor that would be an ancestral great grandmother from the early 1700s. She was being sold in France and a white French physician saw her and instantly fell in love with her (legend has it she was incredibly beautiful), bought her and shortly after married her. She was never a slave. We're all white so I assume it was bred out by continuous white marriages, but should still be in my genes. Now I have a handsome grandson who is half black, even though he is almost white with blue eyes which he gets form his beautiful mother and gorgeous curly brown hair. He will be a lady killer.

    Interesting discussion. I’m not sure why class wasn’t discussed as it represents much of the discrimination and life outcomes regardless of race in Puerto Rico. It would be interesting to see hard statistics on Puerto Rican education levels, home ownership, prison populations and others, although we must be careful as correlation doesn’t equal causation. One reoccurring theme here is the idea that a persons heart and intentions do not exempt them from their participation or or perpetuating a racist system. I agree that a persons heart and intentions can be meaningless, but it has nothing to do with privilege, it’s simply of no consequence. Identifying specific acts of racial discrimination or acts to prevent discrimination is really where change occurs not in a world of theory. I’m wondering if this concept of “privilege” just looks to keep the idea of a racist system alive itself. We see this in the US where micro aggressions are used as evidence that racism is as strong as ever. The very fact that “micro aggressions” is a thing shows progress otherwise our focus would be on more urgent matters. Interesting is that in the US, African and Caribbean Blacks tend to outperform black and many white Americans in terms of education, home ownership and careers. Economists Thomas Sowell has documented this. The same System that is given blame for holding African Americans back from progress doesn’t seem to be effecting them. That only shows there are factors such as culture at play. To suggest that blameless people should be atoning for privilege in the forms of hashtags is silly and useless. It’s a ridiculous symbolic gesture that would add the the excessive virtue signaling that plagues social media. We should be addressing specific incidents and true institutional racism (racist laws and processes) and discrimination where they exist. Not focusing on the critical race (theory) that focuses on privilege and guarantees racism will always exist if u keep changing its definition and moving the goal post.

      Chico its not that subtle actually. this chica can sing "we are mixed" until the end of times comes but it doesnt negate the fact that PR practices racism and cast based privilege were gringos from there and elsewhere sit on top of the food chain. its not a coincidence that Black genetics are the only ones that bother most puerto rico . The island is racist but refuses to do the work on it .

    • @juliocorrea2552
      @juliocorrea2552 2 роки тому

      @@PHlophe I’m sure racism exists in Puerto Rico, but this discussion was a missed opportunity to present data of actual racism, instead we they focus on language “pelo malo”, “negrito”, standards of beauty. No data showing race based discrimination. They are literally importing racial concepts of micro-aggressions from the mainland. If all u can point to is that then that in itself shows progress If you visit prisons n caserios you find every color of Puerto Rican but what they have in common is class n economic situation. Class is a bigger denominator in outcomes in PR than race will ever be. It’s currently trendy to be a victim n Puerto Ricans are no different than anyone else when it comes to trends lol unless u have raw data to provide showing true racism, your just waxing poetic and reveling in your own romanticized supposed victimhood.

    Racism is straight antichrist anyway in my block lately the antichrist has bee veering its true ugly naked self so I am going to teach these heathens along the block I live hit them with a permanent curse I will turn them into chickens and make them swallow their words shut them up this curse will remain with them until they learn a lesson. They will keep me my son out their mouths the moment they attempt to spew manure off their tounge they will be silenced and forced to swallow their words my sight will send them scurrying back to their chicken coops instantly as if they were being chased by a fox. Looking for issues or problems will only make this curse dreadful

    ¡Excelente información! Definitivamente se puede incorporar a la clase de LOTE Spanish para que los estudiantes comparen y contrasten el impacto del COVID-19 en las comunidades indígenas de los países latinoamericanos. Así mismo, los elementos culturales de cada comunidad indígena a investigar. Por otro lado, este material, definitivamente, ayudará a estudiantes cuyo primer idioma, no es el español como practica auditiva y de comprensión. "Pueblos salvan pueblos" frase utilizada en este webinar que llamó mi atención.

    I said this many times and I will say it again like in most parts of The Americas be it Latin, Anglo, Franco, Dutch, Arctic, Subarctic, etc Amerindians in a general manner are seen as the lowest of the low even by West Africans born in the Americas of pure or near pure blooded

      Mr Mann, the archeologists and other scientific ' experts ' for decades taught that the native Puerto Rican Tainos were completely extinct. Our grandparents always said the opposite. Then came the great advancements in DNA technology! Recently, my little sister took a DNA test and it turned out 15% Taina! That might be the special ' ingredient ' that makes Puerto Rican women so beautiful. 😉

    Sweetheart that’s ignorance to say every puertorican has African genes. Hahaha. Most puertoricans I have met look whiter than Italians and Portugueses. Black abuela somewhere? Sweetheart that comment is ignorance. Unbelievably the way you talk . Including all Latin America? Mija, you are unbelievable

      Puertorricans have 3 roots... African + Taino + European, we are a mix, hence why we are not racist (I’m speaking for most of us, there’s racism everywhere so yeah)

      @Ti Klim a lot of us don’t want independence, and a lot of us do, because it’s really really really complicated, in some ways the US is a disgrace to the island and in others it’s the best thing that could happen, but yeah, it’s fucked up.

      Ik this is old. But being african descent doesnt mean u will be black. 90% of all puertoricans have african roots are of african descent, the rest are children of immigrants who made their lives in the island. Something that i as a puertorican myself can completely guarantee is that for the most part family reunions have people of every color

    Can a black Puerto Rican get a job? Go to college? Own a house in Puerto Rico? Or start a business? If you can , then you don't have systemic racism. But if you do , then you need to change the laws to have zero tolerance for discrimination. And improve the educational system of the poor.

      As a puertorrican, there is rarely racism against black puertorricans. They are just as successful as whites are. But then again, I can’t really speak cause I haven’t experienced anything like it, and PR has 3.2 million residents so it’s 3.2 million different stories.
